"I also hooked one up that I got from West Marine for $50. It is a combo Tach and hour meter. It is a tach when you are running and a hour meter when the engine is off. It is a simple device that sticks onto the cowling with 3M tape. It has a wire that you run to the #1 spark plug and wrap it around at least 5 winds. You secure each end with a plastic wire tie.  That's it. Super simple, and not too expensive. "
