"Hi. I have access to a machine shop and was planning on tooling a merc alignment tool, however my manual only has the specs for modifying an older style tool. (not enough info)Any one have the specs for 1988 Alpha 1 5.7. Thanks in advance."

Largest OD 1.374"
Small end is 1.000" OD for the first 2.25"
Next section is 1.155" OD for another 2.75"
The shoulders are sharp and square.
The small end has a slight bevel to ease insertion into the coupler.

Would the bravo 2 alignment tool be the same size ?
I am hoping to make one up to use when I reinstall my engine after repairing it over the winter in a few weeks time.

I bought one off eBay for $35

"Got one made thanks...now when I try to align the engine the rod only goes in 6 1/2 inches, barely into the splines and it starts to bind. the grease on the splines doesn't show abnormal alignment at least for the first 1/2 inch which is all it goes in...thoughts? One other question...what is between the splines and the gimbal that the tool goes thru?"

Ken; sounds like your front mounts need to be adjusted upwards. Try one full turn for starters.
