"When I was timing my 4.3 at 650 rpm, I noticed that after I tightened the dist, when I increase rpm to 1000-1200 the timing mark moves off the chart. Is that normal? The motor runs good but if I really jab it it hesitates."

"Thats normal. Your spark advance kicks in with increased rpm.

With a carbed engine there will always be a noticeable bog if you hammer the throttle.

You are always better off to advance the throttle in a steady motion, taking about 1 second to get to WOT. This gives the gears time to completely mesh and the fuel time to catch up to the increased air flow rate so it does not go lean and bog out. This method is much easier on all the drive train parts.

Quadrajets are bad for bog, but your LX is likely a 4 bbl Weber carb. Somewhat better.

IMHO if a Qjet has a "bog" in it it ain't set right or there is something else bothering the engine. We've used Qjets for years on our jet boats and they always ran great. The last thing a guy wants is a bogging engine coming down a river facing a 90 degree rock wall bend.
