"I bought an 1980 galaxy with a 120 mercrusier. The boat hadn't been used in a few years & there was bad fuel (dirt & water) in the tank. After cleaning the tank and changing fuel/water filter it was time to move on to the carb (rochester 2bbl). It was pretty well toast so I put a rebuild on. The boat seems to run pretty good but if I run at idle, below 1000rpm in gear, for a few minutes the engine dies. It seems no fuel is getting to the carb. If I squeeze the inline primer bulb it is soft but then the engine starts & runs fine. About the only thing I haven't changed is the fuel pump."

There is a filter in the fuel

There is a filter in the fuel pump dome if mechanical type. If it is original then it wouldn't hurt to change the pump. Probably full of varnish granules and gunk. Check the diaphragm leak detection nipple w/the plastic hose on it. If it is full of gunk so is the pump.
