"I have been looking for a new Alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive. I have found someone who has some new Gen 2's for sale at a good price. When I asked him if he had any Gen 1's for sale he said no "but a gen 2 can be fitted in place"
But I have been advised on this site before that a Gen 2 will not fit. Can anyone tell me what the difference is and why they are not interchangeable? Is it possible to carry out modifications to make it fit?

"Gen II will not fit.
The shift shaft mechanisms are different, and I do not believe there is any easy way to modify them to fit.
Plus the Gen II has a channel for a lube oil monitor that is mounted on the engine, but the Alpha One gimbal is not equipped for it.
There may be other differences.

Rod is Right,... There's No practical way to mount a Gen.II to a Alpha 1 gimbel housing....

SEI sells Alpha 1s for about $1300. Brand New, with a Warrenty..."
