"boat idles/runs great in neut

"boat idles/runs great in neutral. putting in forward, engine dies, reverse runs but no prop movement. my 74 yo dad is here from 12hrs away, he is at a loss. i am a boat idiot. could someone leave a phone # so i could call and get live info. i just need to know what i/m looking at.

Check your shifting set-up/adj

Check your shifting set-up/adjustment. Sounds like in forward the cutout switch kills the engine and reverse does not go all the way into reverse. K-pax may be on track here with a seized lower cable.

"the outdrive shift cable is most likely shot. relace it and adjust per the mercruiser manuel insructions. hope this helps, rob."

"Dennis, how mechanically inclined are you? You have to take the outdrive off and you need a special 9/16" deep socket(I just welded a nut on the back end where it would connect to the ratchet so you can turn it with a wrench). I cursed a few times when I replaced mine. If you want to tackle it yourself, let us know and we will work you through it.
