74 Evinrude 85 replaced power pack and timer base

I have a 74 Evinrude 85 that h

I have a 74 Evinrude 85 that has only been firing the port cylinders. I have replaced the power pack and timer base. Now the engine starts but is backfiring and the plugs get fowled really fast with lots of smoke. Not sure what to replace next. Any expert help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info... how does the shift switch impact all the ignition problems? Where is the shift switch?

i agree with jw on possible cr

i agree with jw on possible crossed ignition wiring...i add the probability of you sheering a flywheel pin if it has been let backfire to any extent...if thats the case then even after you get the wiring str8 you still got problems....
