"I have not had this motor in the water for a few years, decided yesterday to put cup on it and crank her up. Ran fairly well, but noticed a pretty oily residue forming inside the prop/exhaust. Never noticed this before, but have never really paid attention to it either. Is this normal?"

"u do not have a 77 60 elect shift..model number pls....oily residue is normal,unless gearcase is leaking,in which case,if u suspect that,..pressure/vacuum test...
no matter what yr--after sitting,..u need the following---**ck compression/ck spark*
1. Water pump kit
2.Clean/rebuild carbs
3.Complete tune up/de-carb
4.ck shift cables
5.chg any fuel filters
6.drain/clean/ck fuel tanks/inst new hoses and primer bulb.
7.Chg lower unit oil"
