"I bough a 2001 Cobalt 262 with a 496GXI Mercruiser engine. During test run it ran great at about 3800 rpm. but if we go over 4000 rpm for 5 minutes it got overheated. The dealer took it back and stated that they've change everything from propeller, impeller, impeller housing, hose...etc. At the end of 2 months, they told me that this engine wasn't design to go over 4500 rpm. But when it happen the first time the mechanic told me this engine can run up to 4800 rpm without any problems. Would someone help me shine some light on this problems. Your help will be greatly appreciated"

"What drive?
It should be a Bravo, in which case there is no impeller in the leg. Seawater is pumped by a belt driven pump that is low on the front stbd side of the engine.

Did they change the impeller in this pump?
Did they check the thru hull water pickup and sea strainer or obstructions?
