Rattle in velvet v drive 1972

"Just bought this 1972 winner 28 foot cc , And when i put it in forward or reverse it makes a rattling noise ,but when i trottle up above idle it goes away , in neutral no rattle is this normal ? thanks"

"It's "normal" for a trans with a worn damper plate.

It's indicative that one or more springs are loose, or have busted or fallen out. You may run the engine for years without issue in this condition.

You could also have it fail completely and not be able to use the boat. Mine rattled a bit several years ago and has been fine ever since."
