"I have a year 2000 carborated

"I have a year 2000 carborated Merc 5.7. Last week it wouldn't crank while out on the water. Had the starter rebuilt, replaced starter wire and ground wire, have 2 brand new batteries and engine will still not crank; it barely spins. I took all 8 spark plugs out and then the starter will spin the flywheel. What happened, the boat ran great all day and then all the sudden...nothing?"

Did any water come out of the spark plug holes when it spun over with the plugs out?

No water came out. But the boa

No water came out. But the boat did have (run on) or (dieseling) that day.
 
Jump the slave solenoid copper

Jump the slave solenoid copper studs and see if the starter cranks the engine. They can be intermittent when they are going out.
