This could be the first of many posts.

I am rebuilding an old US Navy LCPL which is equiped with a DD 671T supposedly rated for 300hp.

Originally she had two 8D starting batteries permanently wired in parallel. Do I need this much power to crank her over or could I wire it with a bettery selector switch and use one battery at a time?

"Hey Martin,

I also have a DD 671 but naturals. I'm using 1 4D for each engine. But I have 12volt system. You might have it set up for 24 volts which is why your batteries are wired in a parallel sequence. Either way 1 4d battery is enough per engine if she's 12volt. If she's 24 volt then you can use 2 4D batteries.

"Thanks John

It is a 12v system. I'm not even sure what is the difference between 8D and 4D, i've seen 8D with various CCA ratings so it can't be related to that

Anyway I'm switching to 4D it will be a weight saving as well as a $ saving."
