Yamaha 90 Reading high voltage

"I'm guessing it's voltage regulator problems. Checked with volt meter and it shows same as gauge. Tried hooking up a differnt battery and it still runs high. The warranty just ran out a few days before this happened. When we turn on lights it comes down a little, but still runs high. Any ides before we change out the regulator?"

"We went to the dealer and they don't stock the parts, they took a voltage regulator off a new motor. We went out and tried it and it does the same thing. Voltage starts out at about 12 to 14 and then goes up to a little over 15. If we run with the dock lights on it drops back down to 13. We are guessing now we may have a short, but don't even know where to start looking. Any suggestions are appreciated."

"A volt meter reads the same as the gauge when attached to the battery. We bought a new battery to try out this weekend. The dealer says it's probably the "statter" He ordered one, but he never did say what it would cost."
