1972 Johnson 125 hp water impeller

I picked up and old 125 HP Joh

I picked up and old 125 HP Johnson and I'm thinking about changing the impeller. What's involved and do I need any special tools for the job. I tried to take it to mechanics and marinas and nobody want's to touch anything over 20 years old. I have never done a job like this but I'm pretty handy and mechaniclly inclined.

"It's not a hard job but a manual would be a good idea. No special tools are required but there are a couple of small tricks. There are approximately 6 to 8 bolts including the one under the trim tab that have to be removed. Also, you have to unhook the electric shift wires under the engine cowling and attach a string to them. Once bolts are removed and string is attached, lower unit can be removed. Again, a manual is a great investment and will save you time and aggrivation. Manuals are available on Ebay as well as this site."
