"I inherited a 33 sedan 1973 with 350Q engines. I do not see any timing marks anywhere! Only dimples on the fly wheel in the view hole. I power timed them both, rebuilt the Carter AFB carbs, Rebuilt the Mallory distributors and replaced the alternators for single pole GM Marine, and can't get over 3100 rpms. They both run smooth up to 3100 rpms. There is a constant exhaust smell in the cockpit and the engines are burning 13GPH each! I have noticed several postings to the problems of timing and rpm's but have not seen any replys. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!"

"You may have to get yourself a real motor man and have him (or her) do a TDC measurement job. This consists of pulling # 1 plug and putting a stop in the plug hole. TDC can be found very accurately that way and then, using timing tape (or calculating), you can mark out the advance degrees on the damper pulley.
