"I cannot get the shifter to go back into neutral. It is stuck in forward. I have a 95 searay, mercruiser 4.3"

"remove the shift cabels at the block, and try to move the shifter. this will tell you were the problem is."
 
check the switch that sits ato

check the switch that sits atop your valve cover. It intermittently kills the engine to allow the gears to slow and go into and out of gear. The switch is closest to the oil cap. While running press it in and make sure it kills the engine. If not then that is your problem.

I'm no pro but that was my problem awhile back. It was also a 3.0L. I'm not entirely sure if the 4.3 has the same setup.
