"Has anyone converted a mercruiser io, alpha one, to anykind of diesel engine? I am thinking of a low hp, 120-175 4 or 6 cyl. It should be very simple since the connection to the outdrive is just a splined shaft."

That's the easy part. A diesel has such a different power curve that the prop will think it's in low gear.

early bravo diesel models were known to break gimbal rings.gears in alpha weaker too. also think about ratio, & propping, you are making a huge change in max r.p.m."
