"I would remove the shift cable end at the engine and pull it and push it. Remove it by pulling cotter pin and one 7/16 nut. Get an assistant to check for "gears" at the prop. You should have forward and reverse. If you get gears, push the guide in, have assistant stand on the prop on port side to simulate load and measure from the screw hole on the guide to the brass barrel. It should be 6 inches. After this is set reinstall the cable guide and barrel, do not change this setting."
