260 starting noise

last year my mercruiser starte

last year my mercruiser started making a clicking noise while its turning over it sounds like its coming from the starter it always starts up but it makes an erratic clicking noise any ideas?

"I'll bet the starter solenoid is doing that. If so, cleaning the contacts on the starter will cure it.

"Not often, but occasionally you can have just enough battery amps to crank motor, but solenoid will try do engage/disengage costantly while starting. Take battery to Autozone, Walmart, Advance Auto Parts, etc. (or maybe all of them) and have it load tested.
