I am rebuilding a cylinder off

I am rebuilding a cylinder off a 1977 Evinrude 140hp boat engine. I have taken off the head and the side plate. What I need to know is what do I have to take off to get to the crank to take the actual piston loose. Is it the plate behind the carbs or what. Thanks so much in advance. Joe

"Joe.... There are no short cuts, and I suggest you obtain a service manual to avoid expensive errors.

That powerhead must be completely removed from the engine, all accessories removed, the crankcase split, and then and only then can you obtain access to the crankshaft, rods, etc."

"Many car and truck engines can be re-built in place, without removal. This outboard is not like that at all. Mr. Reeves knows what he is talking about. The engine must absolutely be removed and dissassembled as he told you. I strongly recommend the factory manual too. (Try Ebay) Good luck!"
