"Hello everyone, I'm new here and any assistance I get I'll really appreciate. I have an 87 Sea Ray with a 165 4 cylinder. The motors old and doesn't even read any oil pressure. The outdrive is messed up too but that's another story.

I'm interested in knowing how difficult it would be to swap it out for a 4.3 v6. I'd like to find a newer used motor with all the trimming and just do an even swap.

I looked into it once. You most likely will have to replace the transom assembly due to exhaust pipe clearances. The y-pipe for the exhaust was in the way of my power steering. If you can do through hull exhaust - maybe. I found it to be $$$ more than my boat was worth - 87 Winner w/3.7 165 mercruiser. It only took me 2 hours to pull my 3.7 and I spent a little time fixing the problem + a few gaskets. Will sell it next year and get something else. Wanna buy it?
