"Last weekend the alternator belt on my 2001 Mercruiser snapped. I bought a new one to change, however I realize that the belt must go through the engine mount, is this real or what? Is there any other way to get the belt through without undoing the engine monut? Or do I REALLY have to unbolt the mount? If yes, how do I do it without the engine colapsing!!!! Please help, I have promised my 6 year old daughter that I would get it fixed and came to find out is a little trickier than I thought."

"Even tough you Don't say What engine you have in your 2001 Mercruiser,..........
I'm Guessing it's a 3.0l......
If that's the case,....
There's a small block on the portside of the front motor mount that is removed, after you remove the 2 bolts holding it in place,.......
The starboardside of the mount will hold the motor, until you reassemble the portside........."

"Yes, it is a 3.0L and I appriciate your response very much. I am going to try to locate the small block with two bolts and will let you know the result. Thanks!"
