"I have a 1987 Yamaha 30 HP outboard with an external Yamaha fuel tank. On the output connector assembly on the tank, there is a small spring-loaded pin which is pushed in when you connect the fuel line connector. I believe this is the vent for the fuel tank. QUESTION: Does this vent only work one way ie. when there is a vacuum in the tank? Because I have noticed that the tank can build up pressure when it is off the boat (in the sunlight) and pressing the little vent pin does not relieve the pressure. You have to crack open the filler cap to relieve the pressure. Is the vent pin working correctly?"
