"I have a 1988 50hp Yamaha which I inherited. The carbs were clogged with varnish from bad gas after sitting for a number of years. I removed them, disassembled them, cleaned everything with denatured alcohol. I bought a carb kit and reassembled the carburetors with the new parts (floats, needle valves, gaskets, etc.)

I attached the fuel lines and installed the carburetors. The engine started right up, instantly. However, fuel began leaking from all three carburetors. It's coming out from under a plate on the top of each carb.

Can anyone who has experience rebuilding these carburetors suggest what I've done wrong??? I took them all apart, checked everything, and I'm baffled. Thank you!

"Yup. Under that plate are some round shaped rubber gaskets, and some circular steel pieces. I put in new gaskets. There's a third hole that doesn't have a gasket--- I guess that's a vent? That's apparently where the fuel is coming out of.

Are you familiar with these carbs?

Thanks for your help!!!!
