57 Gsi whining sound when trying to start engine

I was cruising with so

I was cruising with some friends and on our way back to the ramp I stopped in one of the near by small coves so we can jump in the lake one last time before taking the boat out of the water. I Shut engine off, we did our diving and (15 min or so went by)when I tried to re-start the engine and I heard a noise similar to what you will hear if you try to start the engine in your car while it was already running. I immediately turn the ignition switch back and re-tried to start the engine 10 sec later. Now, all I get is this whining sound when I turn the ignition switch to start it and the engine will not crank.

Does this sound like a bad starter motor?

i would pull it out and try lubing up the Bendix shaft not the Bendix

"It turned out to be the solenoid. The whining sound was the bendix rotating inside the case.

The engine now starts right away.
