"I own a 1987 fully manual Yamaha 30 HP model 30SH. It does not have a starter. I want to be able to charge an external battery to run some accessories on my boat.
This engine already contains a "lighting coil". So I installed a Yamaha rectifier, connected it to the lighting coil and passed 2 wires (12V and GND) through the housing to the outside and the engine now charges my battery. However this is an unregulated voltage which can go up to 18 V at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). QUESTION: Will this voltage cause my battery to explode?"
