F100 Yamaha Problem

I have twin 2001 F100 TXRZ mot

I have twin 2001 F100 TXRZ motors on my boat. Yesterday while trolling one motor shutdown. I had no electrical at all to the motor or the 703 control for it. There was a burnt smell to it when I removed the cowling. No warning before it stopped. Any help on what to look for first is greatly appreciated.

I checked the battery and fuse

I checked the battery and fuses and they were ok. I did find the burned section on the CDI unit at the bottom. Could that have failed and caused a hole where it shorted?
