"I'm trying to help a friend with his 88' Yamaha 40hp 3cyl 2 stroke engine. Last weekend, he was motoring along and heard a bump then lost power. He thought he may run over something but the prop and engine looks ok. He made it back to shore...slowly and dosen't physically see anything wrong with the prop and it's tight on the shaft. At idle, the engine runs smooth. When shifting into forward or reverse, you feel a vibration in the boat and gets worse as the the RPM's increase. at low rpm, the boat will move along slowly but semms to have little power. I'm mechanically inclinded and don't mind to tear into it to help but i'm looking for some direction. I did purchase an online manual for the engine so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!"
