I have a 1965 starflite7 75hp

I have a 1965 starflite7 75hp w/electric shift model #75583s and it is controlled by a johnson single lever selectric shift box w/ warmup throttle lever at the rear.The problem is when I put it in forward gear the engine dies.Also when I rev the engine up to high rpm the engine shifts into gear even though the shifter is in nuetral.What is going on?
 
There are two wires leading to

There are two wires leading to the lower unit at the powerhead.

12v to the green wire engages forward. 12v to the blue wire engages reverse.

Possibly you have the wrong shift switch installed. I have no idea as to exactly what is wrong BUT it appears that you have something wired wrong.

You'll first need to make sure that the voltages being applied from the shift switch are correct and applied to the proper wire at the proper time.
 
I have a 1969 johnson 85 h.p.

I have a 1969 johnson 85 h.p. hydro eletric drive.It was doing fine and now it want go into reverse.What could be the problem
