Soft alarm goes off and engine idles low

have a 2002 350 mag mpi and th

have a 2002 350 mag mpi and the engine only idles at about 400rpm. Soft alarm goes off every minute. What does the soft alarm do compared to the hard alarm. Runs smooth at higher rpms. No scanner available for 500kms. Changed fuel filters also no luck.

A hard (constant) alarm will be set when the active fault is a more serious fault that calls for a reduction of Available Power to as little as 0%.

My guess would be that the alarm is an IAC fault. You may need to replace it, but before you do check the IAC muffler. I have seen quite a few 4.3/5.0/350MAG MPI engines that had a low idle due to a clogged IAC muffler. If you don't have a replacement, you can run without it to see if it helps bring the idle up. If you remove it and it still has a low idle, it's very likely a bad IAC valve."
