SHIFT CABLE AND POINTS REPLACEMENT

I JUST REPLACED THE SHIFT CABL

I JUST REPLACED THE SHIFT CABLE BUT CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO ADJUST IT OUT. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
IT DIES WHEN I TRY TO PUT IT IN GEAR.
ALSO I AM REPLACING THE POINTS IS THEIR ANY THING SPECIAL ABOUT IT WHEN PUTTING BACK ON?
ANY MEASUREMENTS THAT NEED TO BE DONE?

"on the points there is a certain guage to guage them at,on average from .18 to .25 will work..thats what they are on my 120 hp,,Also my 160 hp i think is the same..If there not right you will know..You know to bump the starter over till distributer lobe is at high point meeting the points where there at maximum gap then guage them there.."

It's best that you get a manual for the shift cable adjustment. It will also give you the tuneup specifications for the points. Don't forget to reset the timing.
