Is a stainless marine head gas

Is a stainless marine head gasket necessary in a FWC engine? Reading the Fle-pro description it seems that they are only stainless around the cylinder bore - although I may have read that wrong.

Use the gasket that is specified for the engine. Using a different one than specified may work fine until your antifreeze becomes acidic and eats it away.

What in a marine application would make the antifreeze acidic?

A specification is easy to make - "go stainless because when we build the GM engine blocks we have no idea if it will be FWC or raw water cooled".
 
Failure to flush and refill pe

Failure to flush and refill per the mfg. or at least monitor the PH level of the coolant is usually due to neglect.
