"I know this may sound silly,

"I know this may sound silly, but I'd like to know if the prop is to turn freely when the shifter is in neutral? I'm trying to pull the prop,(not a big deal, I know), but I need it to turn to clear the housing in order to pull it, but it just don't wanna spin.

You can use a block of 2 x 4 o

You can use a block of 2 x 4 or whatever to block it from turning while you are loosening the retainer nut.
