"Hi Guys, I am new to the forum but have a lot of respect for the advice given here.
My problem: Intermittant clicking at solenoid during starting cycle. Eventually engine cranks over, starts and runs perfectly from idle to WOT. Verified condition of 2 new batteries, installed new ignition switch and terminals, inspected and cleaned all wiring harnesses, battery cables and grounds. Respected shop replaced solenoid and checked condition of starter unit and indicated that it was fine. When turning over starter does not sound laboured or bound. Frequent cycling of key will eventually start motor. Solenoid emits 1 very loud click. I almost feel that the starter does not have enough torque to get the engine to start spinning(possibly resting against a compression stroke). Where do I look next?? Please help!!"

You may have a dead pole in your starter or your slave solenoid may be shot or intermittent.

My vote is to buy a new marine

My vote is to buy a new marine starter complete with solenoid and be done with it.
