"Hi all,

I have got a late 70s merc 3L, with Prestolite trim pump. The pump has a vent screw on it sealed with a soft washer. Anyone know the part number for that washer / seal, or where to get one? Its softer than a normal rubber type washer, presumaby as its not supposed to make an air tight seal, but allow it to vent without spilling the oil, so presume I cant really use any old rubber washer, but mine has disintegrated.

"Years of oil exposure has made it soft unless it is a felt washer. Try an O-ring the siz of the opening. Does the pump have a separate oil fill screw? If yes, then the vent screw should not be tight. Snug it finger tight and back it off 2 turns."

No not felt, just seemed very soft mailable rubber like. Yes it has seperate fill screw, and tech manual says to tighten then back off two turns as you say.

Will epxeriment with o ring etc as you suggest, what would be scenario/syptoms if it was sealing to tight?
