"i cut off the old boot,the new one seems real small,it is the same size as the pipe.any suggestions on how to get it on.they want 50 buck for the tool but i am only going to use it once and would rather have the 50 for the gas tank @ 4 a gallon.i have installed a new flapper inside the pipe.i have a 165hp str 6 cylinder,1971."

Not sure exacty what boot you are talking about, but it should comfortably fit over the downpipe. Are you sure its the right one?

One thing you can try is immersing the boot in really hot water for a few minutes. This may make it pliable enough to get it over the pipe.

Use soapy water to squeeze it on and position it.
