"O.K. Incomlpete answer.
First thngs first, This would be the gimble bearing. It must be checked for corrosion and smoothness of movement. If corroded or water/wear is apparent it should be replaced.
Check alinment with the Merc alinement tool, on older units advisable to remove tool , bar engine 180 degrees check again. This is to insure that rubber mounted coupler has not become mishapened and therefor misalined.
Gaskets in place / O rings and seal in place and held there with appropriate sealant/ O rings on shaft in place and all well lubed with water proof grease.
Helm station control placed in Forward.-- Leg shift linkage placed in Forward. Now by placing blocks under the legs skeg to aprox. the hight of the gimble housing carefully , keeping in mind the hyd. rams slde the leg into place. One has to guide the legs input shaft somewhat and also turn the propeller in what would be reverse untill the legs input shaft and engines coupler line up.
At this point the leg should be able to go home nicely, There may be a bit of resistance at the point where the O rings are due to enter the gimble bearing but if more than a good shove is required something is wrong!
More often than not the aliment is just not good enough. The aliment tool has to have very little resistance - next to none. Many manafactures recomend that motor mounts be replaced every 2 years due to compression loads problems. This may seem extreme in some situations but,hey - same forces involved, same problems."
