Different designations for TMD41 amp TAMD41

"I am new to the Volvo diesel

"I am new to the Volvo diesel engines, actually any diesel. My boat has twin TMD41A engines. What is the difference between "41A" engines and the other designations, 41P, 41B etc?
Also is it possible to buy an aftercooler kit and upgrade my engines to TAMD41's?"

"Hi Dan, the 41 A is the first generation model and VP go up in letters as time and changes come about. Ask your dealer what years the engines were made. Prolly same year as your vessel. To add on aftercooler you would have to change fuel pump, injectors, turbo & pistons. To much money there. Enjoy your engines and if you love the boat, repower when the time comes. With diesels, bigger is not always better. You want a happy medium and well loaded engines."

"Hello Dan, If you go to the Volvo Penta site you will find pdf copy of the spec sheet on the older VP engines. It is a good site to browes thru TMD40A 150HP @ 3800 RPM
the TAMD40A 200HP @ 3800 RPM for medium duty
170HP @ 3250 RPM
