i have a used head gasket (not blown but no longer sealing) and a tube of high temp copper gasket goo. the engine is an old, slow-revving albin diesel. we are eyeing each other...

is there any hope here? any old time farmer lumberjack jury rig options that might help? thanks "

cough up the bucks and save yourself some labor (and possibly a crank). Unless you plan on stiffing someone.

If it old and made of copper you may be able to "anneal" it.
If you really enjoy messing around with it to save some bucks, other wise dfink97 is right.
