" My 81 year old father-in-law wants to repower his early 70s Stamas Sportfisherman. It appears to have a V6 GM(Buick?) small block motor(I'm not sure)with an OMC outdrive. The drive is good, but the motor block is cracked and the heat exchangers are rusted pretty bad. I want to replace them for him but have only dealt with cars in the past. Boats are new. I would like to completely replace the motor;do I have to match the drive with a specific motor? The boat has a label that says "Max Rec. HP - 280". Any good motors to suggest? Thanks. "
