"was the previous impeller destroyed? I`m assuming an engine mounted pump,
if fresh water cooled it would go to the heat exchanger. raw water cooled would go to the therm. housing."

"You say it's an Alpha, so I am guessing the impeller you replaced is in the drive leg, right?
Did you curl the blades of the new impeller CCW from the top?
Did you get the key in correctly that locks the impeller to the vertical shaft?

Did you get the water pump to water pipe coupler installed correctly when you put the drive halves back together?
Was the old pump badly disintegrated with lots of bits missing?

If you are testing on muffs, is there lots of water gushing out the prop? (There should not be lots, only a trickle)

Is the hose between the drive and the transom assembly kinked? Check it.

From the inside of the transom assembly the hose goes into the PS and oil cooler on the back top of the bell housing, then down along the lower port side of the engine, then up the front to the T'stat housing.

The hose you should check for flow is the last connection to the T'stat housing. You should get a strong flow that fills a bucket in 15 seconds or less.

Most important of all, when running on the muffs are you getting excess water squirting from the sides of the muffs? If not, you are not running enough water. Open up the faucet.
