"please can someone tell me how to remove the control handle on a mercury 3000 classic control box
i have located a diagram of what i believe to be the same box.(see following link)

i need to get to the cable controls at the rear however it looks like i need to get the control lever off so that i can get the cover plate off to get to the holding bolts.

I have removed a grub screw form the 5 o'clock position on the handel and this has done nothing!
Does anyone have any ideas?"

Is the control from an ouutboard? Post it on the outboard section. It looks similar to my Commander 2000. The handle is female splined and make to the spined shaft. The allen screw should release it unless it has been loctited. The cables are held inplace on the backside of the assy.

this control is fitted to my 4.3l mercruiser

I cannot seem to get it to budge at all!
Was kind of hoping i was doing something wrong!

"You need to remove the throttle only button , put the control on full forward and pop the button out with a small screwdriver, use an 11/16 socket to remove the gland nut behind the button and the handle will slide out.
