"Hi, When replacing my prop af

"Hi, When replacing my prop after the boat sitting all winter. I put the boat into gear but the drive stayed in neutral. I noticed the shifting lever on the top of the lower drive unit had slipped down. I pushed it back up into place and everything seems to work fine. I can however move the lever up and down freely. I am concerned when I'm out in the water the lever may slide back down. Is this something to worry about?"

"What drive?
The lower shift

"What drive?
The lower shift shaft should not be able to slide down and disengage with the upper shift shaft shoe.
Something is not right.
Is it an all original unit, or has something been repaired or replaced recently?

"Brent, someone left the wash

"Brent, someone left the washer off, the one that sits on top of the shift shaft seal in the lower unit. this washer holds the shift lever up and protects the shaft seal from getting messed up from the shift lever.
you will need to drain the drive ,remove the lower and install the washer."

Thanks for your help. I called the guy who did the work in the first place and he said himself he must have forgotten that washer. He is going to fix it asap.
