Ihave a 1971 50hp Johnson elec

Ihave a 1971 50hp Johnson electric shift.Can I switch with a 1978 70 hp lower unit electric shift? Will it mate up correctly. thanks
 
I think you are very confused

I think you are very confused here-----78 70 was not electric shift and the two motors ( 2 cylinder and 3 cylinder ) have a different spline on the driveshaft / crankshaft. IT WILL NOT WORK.
