"Hello again,
I fixed the speedometer took it out this evening and everything was going great until my temp gauge ran into the red on the way back in. I turned off the motor and checked the engine compartment and I could hear what sounded like bubbling from the engine. I let it cool off then went the rest of way in. I flushed the motor and noticed that steam started coming up around the outdrive. Water was being sucked in and the water discharged out was scalding hot. The engine was just serviced and no problems were detected. Is this an indication of an water pump problem or is this a simple fix? I have a 77 Searay with 5.0 L I/O 888. Thanks for your help again.

Start with the thermostat. Its the easiest and the cheapest thing to replace. It probably failed in the closed position just like it does in your car.
