"At the end of the season, going into forward would take just a few seconds hesitation, so you would have to engage it slowly, then it would be fine, but most of the times, it would engage no problem. Any suggestions on where to start, and a list of possibles... Thanks"

"I've worked on many outboards and the adjustment is right in your face, where is it on this Volvo drive? I hate crawling in the back of this motor, so if I have a good idea before i get back there, it would be nice. And is forward engagement = the cable extending right? so I would need to advance the adjustment?"
