Advance timing

help I have a merc 5.0 228 its

help I have a merc 5.0 228 its using 35 gallons of gas to go 60 miles ive been told to advance the timing. ive been told the motor is over proped. the motor will not turn more than 3600 rpms any ideas ? the motor sounds good and its pushing my 22 ft gw at 29 mph at 3000 rpms

Too much advance will KILL your motor, ecpecialy if it is over proped. your WOT (wide open throttle) should be around 4400.change prop to get proper WOT"
