Hi i switched my 70 hp evinrude because it was bad engine. I installed what looked like exact same motor when i hooked up the cables they seemed to shift the opposite direction and someone put a holder on engine so you could pull the cable shifter towards rear of engine to go forward.
i hooked shift cable to that mount to pull toward rear and it worked.
My problem is the cable needs a hole drilled in the back of engine cover to bring cable into engine to pull the shifter .
I know it is not right Please advise.
