For one thing the 8hp has diff

For one thing the 8hp has different reed valve set-up to allow more air and fuel thru the motor.Check on "shop.evinrude.com "for the parts breakdown.

In catalog..( evinrude shop) reed valve plates for 6 and 8 HP engines has identic spare parts number.Are You sure that the difference(increase power) is because it?

You did not post the full mode

You did not post the full model # ( your mistake )and if you look it up for the 1988 model year you will clearly see that the leaf plate for the 8hp has more reeds for more air.There are other differences as well!

dear london marine.. now I know all..
the differences:
1-bigger high speed orifice
2-bigger diameter in nozzle well
3.another engine block ( I thing there is a bigger exhaust window)
4.reed valve plate is identic but may be there is different "open tolerance"
