"I've got a 165 L6 merc. Was wondering if I need to remove the outdrive to replace/repair these parts. I have a feeling I'm going to need to remove the engine to get to them. My manual is in the boat which is put away in storage, so I can't really refer to it right now. The boat is a '76 Somerset and I'm pretty sure the bellows and all those peices and parts have never been payed attention to. Hence, I'd like to get in there before something major goes wrong. We've already spent an ungodly amount of money on the engine, interior, and trim system. The only thing still original is the outdrive and exhaust system. Although the lower unit water pump was replaced two years ago. And I know that there is water getting into the leg oil, so that needs a re-seal. Is there anything else besides the bellows and exhaust flapper I should look at while I'm in there."

"The exaust flapper is accesse

"The exaust flapper is accessed from inside the boat by removing the elbow, connector hose.
Bellows and exaust tube is done after you remove the outdrive."
